Workplace Change Management
Change in the workplace is typically met with many questions. Why are we changing? How will these changes affect me? What should I expect if my office has yet to change?
However, some change can be exciting and invigorating for the workforce. At Dell, the Workplace Innovation program is just that. Changes to the work environment are being made and are intended to foster more collaboration and idea sharing between colleagues. But, how do you share the thinking behind these changes with a global workforce, and how do you get them excited for the changes that will soon be coming to their office?
Essentially, how do you answer the question, “What does this mean to me?”
As part of the communications strategy aimed at rolling out the Workplace Innovation changes, the Dell team planned an executive-level thought leadership blog and employee intranet site that focused on the changes and benefits. This would reach the workforce around the globe and introduce these new changes. The internal team was stretched and also wanted to solicit the expertise of an outside firm to help them tell their story in an innovative way.
Digital Communication Solution
Ballyhoo Blue Workshop was an obvious partner for Dell. The companies had worked together on hundreds of projects, and Ballyhoo knew how to dive in and help Dell tell the right story.
To continue the conversation with the internal team and provide more detail into the process, intranet pages were designed to support each of the key initiatives within the Workplace Innovation program. Leveraging the existing Jive intranet platform, these pages contained graphics and imagery that detailed the workplace ecosystem, strategy, principles and goals. The approach told a cohesive story aimed at educating Dell associates and generating excitement within the employee base for the changes to come. Working closely with the Dell IT staff, the pages were built within the intranet platform, tested, reviewed and deployed. As part of the communications strategy, a link was included within the blog post driving visitors to the site to learn more.
Digital Communication Integration
The seamless process ensured that a beautiful, creative solution was developed leveraging existing IT infrastructure and platforms. The pages served as a foundation for the Workplace Innovation program that, as the program name indicates, will evolve and grow over time. With an ongoing content strategy, visitors will find this corner of the intranet to be the place to visit to learn more about what is happening in their office, what changes are on the horizon and what those changes will mean to their daily operations – what it means to them!
In the end, the client was extremely happy with the innovative approaches and visuals Ballyhoo brought to the table despite the limitations of the Jive platform. Ballyhoo was able to quickly design and develop the site, which put the Workforce Innovation team ahead of the other internal teams. The sitelet is the first internal one to get a refresh under the new brand … and we have been told the work we did is now the bar by which others are being measured.
