Refreshing the Story
Lwala Community Alliance is an NGO focused on maternal and child health and HIV prevention and treatment in rural Kenya. Lwala is near and dear to our hearts at Ballyhoo as moms. Their work made us reflect on our own fortunate situations and want to work to grow their influence for other communities.
As an Agency Ally with social impact agency Mighty Ally, we work with organizations like Lwala to put our design skills to use helping them tell their story, and transform audiences into supporters and advocates. Our pro bono design work helps these organizations in their fight for good, and it gives our team the creative freedom to add meaning to their work, create interesting and compelling solutions, and bring that experience back to our clients.
For Lwala, their annual report is essential to the organization to highlight their accomplishments in the previous year and demonstrate to donors how their gifts make a difference. When they began putting their annual report together they wanted to give it a lighter feel than previous reports. In the past, the Lwala annual report was content heavy without a lot of white space. They wanted to take a new direction that brought their many statistics to life to help donors visualize where their dollars were going and the effect they were making.
Partners in Mission
We had recently partnered with Lwala to design high-quality collateral for their annual fundraising campaign. The project was so successful Lwala was able to exceed their aggressive financial goals, in part due to the solutions Ballyhoo provided them!
When it came time for Lwala to create their Annual Report, they knew they wanted to work with Ballyhoo again. They knew our process and that we had a vested interest in their mission. Lwala was confident we would bring success to the annual report redesign.
Lwala wanted their annual report to have a personal feel. However they didn’t want it to seem like the people in the report photos were representative of the quotes throughout the content. Ballyhoo was able to bring the human feel to the report that Lwala desired. Ballyhoo also worked to stay within the Lwala brand colors with a muted palette, but still make the report pop. Finally, we were able to add infographics and images to help consolidate content but still convey the message.
Designing Data into Impact
Lwala couldn’t have been happier with the report redesign. They loved the look, tone, and feel (LTF) for the new report and how it connected to the themes of their annual fundraising campaign collateral. They are planning on sharing their new report with approximately 2000 people this year in its various formats.
